A Coat Story

This past weekend I went skiing in Mammoth. Even though the weather felt like spring, I started thinking about coats. My coat needs have definitely diminished since my move from Canada, so I am much more careful with new purchases. Lately, I've had my eye on three styles. First, an oversized coat would look cool thrown on top of any outfit, either for work or weekend outings. I'm also thinking that a fur puffer would be perfect for ski trips (off the mountain of course) and trips home to Canada. And lastly, I'm loving the lady like toppers I've been seeing in neutral creams and beiges. They would polish off any nighttime ensemble.
What's on your coat wish list?

One Skirt

One Skirt Day to Night...In So Many Ways

On Saturday, with the exception of going out for breakfast, I stayed in pretty much the entire day.
It was gloomy and wet and I had a hard time motivating myself out of my sweats and off the couch. While my boyfriend was engrossed in the SC game, I kept myself entertained by surfing the web (for clothes, of course!). I came across this long Theysken's Theory skirt ($495) on the "Forward by Elyse Walker" website (btw I LOVE this site!). This year, I really started focusing on the versatility of my wardrobe. Before making any purchase, I try to think of at least 2-3 ways I can wear it. If I can't, I don't buy it. It's probably not worth it. Well, the number of ways I can take this skirt from day to night are endless! The key to wearing a skirt like this is ALL about the proportions.

Left Side: "Night"from left to right - Zara Studded Evening Box Bag ($90) // DKNY Animal Print Faux Fur Jacket ($295) // Mango Tuxedo Blazer ($120) // Topshop Allover Sequin Tee ($100) // Topshop Sequin Peplum Top ($64 - only available in size 6!) // Zara Basic Ankle Strap Heels ($49.99)

Right Side: "Day"from left to right - Zara Quilted Leather Jacket in Camel ($189) // Topshop black fedora ($50) // Super American Sunglass in True Black (on sale for $114.50 here!) // Coach Legacy Leather Penny Shoulder Purse in brass/cognac ($198) // T by Alexander Wang Slub Classic Tee ($90) // Madewell Goldrush Jean Jacket in Storm Cloud Wash ($118) //
Rag & Bone Classic Newbury Booties in Chili ($495) //
Zara Cable Knit Sweater in Light Grey ($59.90 - only medium left!)

Transitional

The weather has been all over the place in LA lately. I either make the mistake of dressing too warmly or not warm enough. Layering is key; without sacrificing looking fashionable of course.
Miranda Kerr shows us layering at its finest in her menswear inspired outfit, complemented with more feminine sheer panty hose.
Her oversized boucle sweater-jacket is roomy enough to fit both a grey T and a denim button down without looking too bulky. Her legs were kept covered with sheer hose while wearing very short leather shorts. She completed her look with those insane studded Isabel Marant booties.
I was inspired to make this look my own, finding the more affordable pieces below.

Sparkle and Shine

Nothing says holiday dressing like a sparkly sequin dress. However, wearing a dress as memorable as this makes it hard to recycle. I like to get as much wear out of my outfits as possible. Especially with the really great pieces. Change up the look with a whole new attitude by adding a textured blazer, a studded clutch and some booties.

Check-Mate

Spotted. Black and white checkerboard patterns fresh off the LV Spring runway.
While this playful print is a little bold for some, checks in more subtle colours increase its wearability. Just look at Gwen Stefani, who rocked the look in grey and black.

Here are some pieces that caught my eye. I think the clear winner is the skirt. How about you?

Lovely in Lace

A lace dress is definitely a must-have wardrobe item. It's feminine, versatile and always on trend. Long-sleeved versions, such as Alexa Chung's Milly Lover Dress, are my personal preference. I have a semi-formal event to go to this Saturday and I've been searching the web for some good options. Here are a few that I've found so far:

All Buttoned Up

Along with my chatter, I post photos that inspire my style.
Yet I never show how I interpret these inspirations into my own outfits.
Well today I am posting the outfit I wore under the influence of the above stylish pics
